A suspected pick-pocket yesterday missed death by a hair’s breadth in Owerri, Imo State.

The prompt arrival of policemen stopped residents from lynching him after he was reportedly caught in the act along Wetheral/MCC Road junction.

It was gathered that Ikenna Orji dispossessed one Amaechi, a carpenter at Timber Market of the sum of N7,000 while both of them were riding in a tricycle.

An eyewitness disclosed that the twosome were the only passengers in the tricycle popularly known as Keke at the time of the incident.

The victim, Amaechi said the tricycle was heading towards Villa Maria on Wetheral Road when he noticed a subtle movement around his pocket.

He said he discovered thereafter that his money had been missing. There and then, he said, he raised alarm resulting in the keke driver stopping.

A search was conducted on Ikenna Orji and the missing N7,000 found on him, Amaechi said.

Our reporter who was at the scene of the incident said Ikenna Orji admitted to the crime in the presence of some policemen.
