Imo Police Arrest 22-Year-Old Man Over Suspected Cult-Related Killing in Owerri

The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Bright Adiene, over the suspected cult-related killing of Okeke Nnamdi in Owerri, as efforts continue to track down another suspect linked to the incident.

The command said the case was reported on October 17, 2026, adding that another suspect, identified only as Anyima, was still being sought. Police spokesperson DSP Henry Okoye disclosed the development in a statement, noting that investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, convened a strategic security meeting on Sunday with area commanders, divisional police officers and tactical team commanders. The meeting focused on reviewing the security situation and strengthening operations across Imo State.

According to the police statement, Bosso directed operational commanders to intensify intelligence-led operations and carry out targeted raids on identified criminal hideouts. He also ordered increased patrols in security hotspots and called for prompt responses to emerging threats.

The commissioner further instructed officers to strengthen cooperation with community leaders, youth groups and other stakeholders. The command said the collaboration was intended to improve intelligence gathering and help prevent further violence in the state.

Bosso also urged parents and guardians to pay closer attention to their children’s activities and social associations, warning them against involvement in cult-related activities. He encouraged families to help discourage young people from joining groups linked to criminal violence.

The police commissioner called on residents to provide useful information to security agencies to support crime prevention and investigations. He warned that anyone found responsible for cult-related violence would face the consequences of the law.

Adiene remains in police custody as investigations continue, while officers intensify efforts to arrest Anyima. The command has not provided further details about the circumstances of Nnamdi’s death or the specific evidence linking the arrested suspect to the alleged killing.
