Olu Jacobs Receives Posthumous Creative Industry Legend Award from US Consulate

Late Nollywood veteran Olu Jacobs has received a posthumous Creative Industry Legend Award from the United States Consulate General in Lagos in recognition of his contribution to the entertainment industry and efforts to strengthen professional ties between Nollywood and Hollywood.
Jacobs was among eight Nigerian creative industry leaders honoured at a reception themed “Reel Connections from Hollywood to Nollywood”. His sons, Olugbenga and Olusoji Jacobs, accepted the award on behalf of their family.
US Consul General Brandon Hudspeth described Jacobs as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated actors, highlighting his contributions to theatre, television, film and international productions. The recognition celebrated a career that spanned more than five decades and earned him respect across Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
Popularly known as the “Lion of Lufodo”, Jacobs trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. He went on to feature in British television productions and international films before becoming a household name in Nigeria through his performances in Nollywood.
His commanding screen presence and extensive body of work helped establish him as one of the country’s most respected acting figures. The award adds to the recognition of his influence on Nigerian cinema and the connections between the country’s film industry and international entertainment markets.
The recognition comes as tributes to Jacobs’ life and career continue following his death. His work across stage and screen remains an important part of his legacy, while the honour from the US Consulate highlights his contribution to building links between Nigerian and American creative industries.
Separately, a video from a night tribute held in Jacobs’ memory attracted attention online after featuring his son, Soji, alongside his estranged wife, Blessing Douglas, and their daughter. The family members appeared together in a group photograph at the gathering, which brought relatives and loved ones together to honour the late actor.
