Adamawa Police Arrest Suspect Accused of Impersonating Inspector in Motorcycle Theft Attempt

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old man, identified as Habila Ibrahim, over an alleged attempt to steal a motorcycle and impersonate a police inspector in Girei Local Government Area.

According to the command, the arrest occurred on October 10, 2026, after officers attached to the Girei Divisional Police Headquarters responded to a distress call during a crime-prevention patrol along the Girei–Yola Road. The officers reportedly intercepted Ibrahim while he was allegedly attempting to steal a Boxer motorcycle belonging to Alhaji Musa of Wuro Dole, Girei.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the command said officers recovered a complete police uniform and a master key suspected to have been used in motorcycle theft. The suspect was also allegedly found with a fake police warrant card.

The police said Ibrahim initially identified himself as Inspector Yakubu Yusuf and claimed to be attached to the Border Patrol Unit at the Sahuda–Cameroon border. According to the command, he gave the name in an apparent attempt to evade arrest.

Further investigations reportedly established that the suspect’s real identity was Habila Ibrahim, said to be from Blue House, Kasuwan Gada, Vimtim, in Mubi North Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The command suspects Ibrahim of involvement in motorcycle theft and the impersonation of security personnel to facilitate theft and defraud members of the public. Police said the alleged activities may extend across Girei, Mubi North and Mubi South local government areas.

The Adamawa Police Command said the suspect would remain in custody while investigations continue. It added that he would be charged in court after the investigation is concluded.

The allegations have not been tested in court, and the suspect’s guilt has not been established. Further proceedings are expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft attempt and impersonation.
