Singer Rolex Dee Released After More Than Three Months in Detention

Nigerian singer Rolex Dee has regained his freedom after spending more than three months in detention, following a prolonged legal dispute that attracted public attention and social media campaigns calling for his release.

His release was announced on Tuesday by MC Bokujaka, who had been leading the online #FreeRolexDee campaign. The announcement came nearly two months after the musician was reportedly granted bail of N100 million.

In videos shared on social media, Rolex Dee was seen lying on a bed in a hotel room and asking MC Bokujaka not to record him. The footage offered a glimpse of the singer following his release from detention.

Announcing the development on Instagram, MC Bokujaka described it as a moment of relief for the musician’s family, friends and supporters who had called for his freedom.

“ROLEX DEE has been released! Finally, the news many Nigerians have been waiting for!” he wrote, adding that the case had generated considerable discussion, questions and controversy. He also expressed hope that everyone involved would be able to move forward peacefully.

Rolex Dee was first arrested in April 2026 over allegations that he defamed Fuji musician Taye Currency during an interview on the Agbaletu programme. He was subsequently released but was rearrested in early July, according to reports.

The rearrest reportedly followed an invitation from operatives of the Oyo State Police Command, who allegedly lured the singer from Lagos with the promise of a reconciliation meeting. The circumstances surrounding the case drew attention online, with supporters continuing to campaign for his release.

Although the singer has now been freed, the supplied report did not provide further details about the conditions of his release or whether the legal dispute with Taye Currency has been resolved.
