Nigerian Army Kills Terrorist, Arrests Another, Recovers AK-47 in Yobe

Nigerian Army troops have killed one suspected terrorist, arrested another and recovered an AK-47 rifle during an intelligence-led operation in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The operation was conducted on October 5, 2026, at Abakuradi Village following intelligence reports about the movement of suspected terrorist elements in the area.
Troops of the 159 Battalion, working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), were deployed to the location and engaged the suspected terrorists, according to a statement issued by the Nigerian Army.
“During the ensuing encounter, troops neutralised one terrorist and apprehended another, while several others fled the scene with suspected gunshot wounds,” the Army said.
The operation also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and one magazine. The Army said troops were continuing to search the area and pursue the fleeing suspects to prevent them from regrouping or carrying out further attacks.
The military described the operation as an example of the role of intelligence gathering, rapid troop deployment and cooperation with local security stakeholders in disrupting terrorist activities.
The Army said it would maintain operational pressure on terrorists and other criminal groups while working with security agencies and local communities to protect lives and support efforts to restore lasting peace in affected areas.
