Abbas Urges Nigerians to Back Tinubu, Says Peace and Development Are Returning

House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas has urged Nigerians to continue supporting President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying the government is addressing what it describes as mistakes and missed opportunities from previous administrations.

Abbas spoke after attending a special Juma’at prayer at the National Mosque in Abuja as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary. He represented President Tinubu at the event, which brought together senior government officials and other dignitaries.

The Speaker said Nigerians should not lose hope, arguing that peace and development were returning to the country. He said the administration believed its ongoing reforms would produce better conditions as Nigeria’s democratic system continued to develop.

“My message to the country on behalf of Mr. President, the Senate President and all members of the National Assembly is that the citizens should not lose hope,” Abbas said, conveying the administration’s message. He added that the government was working to correct what it described as accumulated mistakes and missed opportunities from the past.

Abbas also called on Nigerians to give the Tinubu administration more time to complete its reforms. He said the government believed Nigeria was on the right path and that citizens had already made significant sacrifices for the country’s progress.

The Speaker described Nigeria’s 66 years since independence as a journey marked by both challenges and opportunities. He said the anniversary provided an opportunity to reflect on the country’s history while looking ahead to its future.

Several senior officials attended the prayer session, including Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, governors, members of the National Assembly, ministers and military chiefs. Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume was also present.

Abbas’s comments included a direct appeal for political continuity, urging Nigerians to re-elect Tinubu to continue the reforms initiated by the APC-led administration. The call is a political position from the Speaker and should be distinguished from independently established assessments of the reforms or their effects.
