Nigerian businessman and social commentator Prince Isaac Fayose has criticised the growing political realignment of opposition figures, expressing disappointment over Governor Ademola Adeleke’s recent meetings with senior figures of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Fayose’s comments followed videos circulating online showing Adeleke and his nephew, Afrobeat star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, meeting President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Adeleke, who recently secured another term as Osun State governor, visited Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa on Thursday as part of what was described as a thank-you visit following the governorship election.
A separate video also showed Adeleke and Davido celebrating at the Abuja residence of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The scenes have sparked reactions among supporters and critics of the opposition.
Fayose said he was particularly disappointed because he had supported Adeleke during his political struggle in Osun State. He recalled receiving a call from the governor while he was in Australia and said he subsequently offered his support.
“Look at Osun, I was in Australia and Adeleke called me, I offered my support,” Fayose said, expressing frustration that Adeleke had later appeared alongside leaders of the APC.
The businessman also claimed that he rejected financial inducements and a G-Wagon while supporting the political cause, saying he had expected greater commitment to the opposition camp from those he supported. He further complained that voters could still sell their votes despite the sacrifices made by political supporters.
Fayose extended his criticism to the Ekiti State political scene, saying the PDP candidate he supported during the governorship election, Dr Wole Oluyede, had also aligned with the ruling party. His remarks reflect the wider frustration among some opposition supporters over politicians crossing political lines after elections.
