Nigerian highlife singer Flavour has opened up about a difficult period in his personal life, revealing that he once struggled with a habit he described as an addiction before eventually finding a way to overcome it.

The musician, whose real name is Chinedu Okoli, shared the experience during a candid TikTok Live session with fans and friends, where he reflected on his early adulthood, personal challenges and the lessons he learned from the experience.

Flavour said the struggle began during a period when he was dealing with emotional difficulties after losing contact with someone who was important to him at the time. He explained that the situation affected him deeply and led him into a cycle he later found difficult to control.

According to the singer, he initially sought spiritual guidance from his mother’s pastor, who offered prayers, counselling and religious exercises to help him regain control. However, he admitted that the challenge did not disappear immediately and that he experienced setbacks along the way.

Flavour said he later decided to speak with an older member of his band, who offered him advice that helped him change his approach and eventually overcome the struggle, which he said lasted about two years.

The award-winning singer described the period as one of the most challenging moments of his life, explaining that he felt ashamed and needed someone he could trust to discuss the issue with.

He encouraged people facing personal struggles to seek support rather than suffer in silence, stressing the importance of having honest conversations with trusted individuals.

Flavour became one of Nigeria’s most recognised highlife musicians after the success of his hit song “Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix)” in 2010, a track that helped establish his place in the Nigerian music industry and introduced his sound to audiences across Africa and beyond.
