A joint security operation involving the Lagos State Police Command and a local vigilante group has led to the arrest of two suspected armed robbers in the Odogunyan area of Lagos, with officers recovering a locally made firearm and live ammunition.
The suspects were intercepted during a routine crime prevention patrol after allegedly attempting to flee on sighting the security team. Their suspicious movement prompted operatives to pursue and apprehend them before they could escape.
Confirming the development on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said a search of a handbag found in the suspects’ possession uncovered a locally made cut-to-size Dane gun and three live cartridges.
According to the police, the suspects were identified as Arowolo Damilola, 32, and Adewale Adeyinka, 29. They are currently in police custody and are assisting investigators as efforts continue to determine their alleged involvement in criminal activities.
The command stated that the suspects would be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the officers involved in the operation as well as members of the local vigilante group for their vigilance and swift response, noting that the collaboration played a key role in the successful arrest and recovery of the weapon.
The police boss reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, stressing that security agencies would continue to intensify patrols and intelligence-led operations to curb crime.
He also issued a stern warning to individuals involved in criminal activities, urging them to abandon crime or be prepared to face the full weight of the law.
