Former Imo State Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, has urged residents of the state to remain optimistic ahead of the 2027 elections, saying his political movement has developed a comprehensive healthcare blueprint aimed at improving the lives of citizens.
Madumere, who is seeking to represent Imo East (Owerri Zone) in the Senate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made the remarks during a medical outreach organised by the Faculty of Health Science Students Association (FOHSSA) at Imo State University, Owerri.
Speaking at the event, the former deputy governor said his campaign platform, “Journey of Grace,” prioritises accessible and quality healthcare, stressing that improved health outcomes remain central to sustainable development in Imo State.
“I have the capacity, acumen and skills, coupled with the connections to represent the people effectively. I embody the real deal, as a new Owerri Zone is possible, by the special grace of God,” Madumere said.
He described preventive healthcare initiatives, including free medical outreaches, as vital tools for reducing disease burdens through early diagnosis, timely treatment and public health awareness. According to him, such programmes help bridge the healthcare gap for many residents who struggle to access essential medical services.
Madumere also commended the leadership and members of FOHSSA for taking healthcare beyond the classroom and into local communities. He described the outreach as an example of leadership driven by service, compassion and professionalism.
The former deputy governor praised the students for volunteering their time and skills, urging them to remain focused on their studies while continuing to serve society through community-based healthcare initiatives.
He also highlighted the range of services provided during the outreach, including body mass index (BMI) assessments, blood pressure and vital signs checks, HIV screening, eye examinations, blood sugar tests, malaria screening, medical consultations, health education and counselling.
Madumere further acknowledged the contributions of OCCEEJ Diagnostics and other partners who supported the programme, noting that stronger collaboration between educational institutions, healthcare providers and private organisations is essential to building a healthier Imo State.
