Street-pop star Portable suffered another setback in the boxing ring on Friday after he was disqualified during a heated rematch against Nollywood actor Charles Okocha at the Chaos in the Ring fight night in Lagos.
The celebrity showdown, tagged “Unfinished Business,” took place at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, where fans packed the venue to witness the much-anticipated rematch following their controversial first encounter.
Portable appeared to be in control during parts of the contest before the fight descended into chaos. Both fighters became locked in a wrestling-style exchange that forced the referee to halt proceedings after struggling to separate them.
As the bell sounded to end the round, security personnel and bodyguards entered the ring to restore order. However, the drama escalated when Portable walked out of the ring before officials could conclude the bout, drawing loud boos from spectators.
The singer was eventually escorted back into the ring, where officials ruled that he had abandoned the contest and handed victory to Okocha by disqualification.
Moments before the fight, Portable had spoken backstage while holding his son, expressing hope for a positive outcome.
“I am not happy, but I want God to make me happy and my family,” the singer said.
The defeat marks Portable’s second loss in the Chaos in the Ring franchise within three months. In May, he was beaten by comedian and content creator Carter Efe by unanimous decision at the same venue during a bout streamed live on DAZN.
Away from the headline fight, boxing fans witnessed an action-packed night featuring several stoppages. Basit Adebayo secured a knockout victory over Said Chino, while Suleiman Jafaru stopped Samuel Antwi in the sixth round.
Elsewhere, Michael Babalola extended his unbeaten record with a unanimous decision win over Abidemi Rabiu, Shiloh Defreitas defeated Eric Quarm on points after six rounds, and Yusuf Adeniji earned an eight-round unanimous decision victory against Rilwan Lawal.
The influencer clash between musicians Idowest and Mr Real, whose long-running disagreement over the popular phrase “Legbègbe” fuelled interest in the bout, ended in a draw.
Organised by boxing promoter Ezekiel Adamu, the Chaos in the Ring series has continued to attract significant attention, with organisers claiming previous editions have generated more than two billion video views and 4.2 billion digital impressions across online platforms.
