Veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu has received a major lifeline after Abia State Governor Alex Otti approved the payment of the first phase of her medical expenses following her public appeal for financial assistance.
The 62-year-old actress, who hails from Abia State, recently revealed that she urgently needs to undergo three surgeries and requires about ₦30 million to cover the cost of her treatment. Her appeal drew widespread sympathy from fans, colleagues and members of the public.
Announcing the development, the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment, Martins Okey Justice, disclosed that Governor Otti had approved the initial payment towards the actress’s medical bills.
“His Excellency @alexottiofr has just stepped in on the health issues of our Nollywood legendary actress Mrs. Ngozi Nwosu to approve the first part of her medical bills,” Justice wrote in a post shared on X.
While expressing gratitude to the governor for the intervention, Justice explained that the approved payment covers only part of the funds required for the actress’s treatment. He therefore appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to continue supporting the Nollywood star as she prepares for the remaining surgeries.
“While we sincerely appreciate His Excellency, we still appeal to kind-hearted Nigerians to please support her in any way possible you can,” he added.
Justice also conveyed the appreciation of the Nigerian creative industry to Governor Otti for responding promptly to the actress’s health challenge.
“On behalf of the creative industry, we all thank you immensely, my leader. Ndewo sir,” he said.
Ngozi Nwosu is one of Nollywood’s most respected actresses, known for her memorable roles in television and film over several decades. The governor’s intervention is expected to ease part of the financial burden as she continues her quest to raise the remaining funds needed for her medical treatment.
