Fresh cracks have emerged within the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after six governorship aspirants publicly rejected claims by Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli that they had shelved their ambitions and embraced ongoing reconciliation efforts ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The group, popularly known as the G6, comprises Engr. Hakeem Alao, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan, Dr. Ayobami Lam-Adesina, Barr. Akeem Agbaje, Mr. Ololade Bakare, and Barr. Musibau Asanike. In a joint statement, the aspirants insisted that Senator Alli was “jumping the gun” by suggesting they had abandoned their aspirations or endorsed his emergence as the party’s governorship candidate.
Their reaction followed comments made by Alli during “A Day With BSA,” a media interaction hosted by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, in Ibadan. During the event, the Oyo South senator said reconciliation efforts were already yielding results, revealing that one member of the G6 had assured him of the group’s willingness to cooperate with the process.
Alli also disclosed that he recently met another governorship aspirant in Abuja to discuss strategies for strengthening the APC ahead of the 2027 elections. He expressed confidence that internal disagreements within the party would soon be resolved through continuous consultations with party stakeholders.
However, the G6 maintained that no governorship candidate has been officially adopted by the APC in Oyo State. The aspirants argued that Senator Alli’s public posture was premature and did not reflect the current position of the party.
“We are good party men, and we will be pleased to work for the victory of the party with anyone that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu picks as the consensus candidate,” the group stated. They added that their commitment remains with the success of the APC rather than any individual aspirant.
The aspirants further stressed that the party should adopt a transparent and credible consensus process capable of producing a candidate acceptable to the majority of APC members across the state. According to them, attempts to project any aspirant as the party’s flagbearer before such a process is concluded amount to unnecessary propaganda.
Despite the disagreement, the G6 reaffirmed its loyalty to the APC, describing the party as “one indivisible family” with a strong electoral base. The group insisted that it remains committed to supporting whoever eventually emerges through a consensus process facilitated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
