The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has vowed to mount an aggressive grassroots campaign to secure victory for Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting with party leaders from Owerri Zone, Imo APC Chairman Austin Onyedebelu declared that the party would “fight like a wounded lion” to ensure President Tinubu and all APC candidates emerge victorious in the state.
The meeting brought together members of the State Working Committee, local government executives, ward executives, elected council chairmen, councillors and other party officials from the nine local government areas and 105 wards in Owerri Zone.
Addressing the gathering, Onyedebelu urged party members to remain united, disciplined and committed ahead of the 2027 general elections. He warned that every party official would be held accountable for the APC’s performance in their respective wards and local government areas.
“If you lose our votes, we are going to hold you responsible. Don’t tell us why you failed after the election. Tell us now what will make you fail so we can address it,” he said.
The APC chairman also urged members to immediately report any issue or individual capable of undermining the party’s chances, stressing that internal challenges must be resolved before the election period.
Onyedebelu insisted that genuine grassroots mobilisation, rather than political shortcuts, would determine the party’s success. According to him, electoral victory depends on securing real votes through effective coordination among ward officials, local government executives and party leaders.
He further cautioned members against anti-party activities, warning that those who support opposition parties should not expect political rewards if the APC loses.
Describing the 2027 elections as a critical moment for Owerri Zone, Onyedebelu said the contest also represents an opportunity for the zone’s ambition to produce the next governor of Imo State.
Earlier, APC State Secretary Onyekachi Ibezim explained that the stakeholders’ meeting was organised to strengthen engagement between the State Working Committee and grassroots officials ahead of the next election cycle. He described ward and local government executives as the backbone of the party’s electoral success.
Responding on behalf of Owerri Zone, APC State Vice Chairman Justus Ogu assured the party leadership that the zone would work to deliver victory for APC candidates in every elective position, from the presidency to the Imo State House of Assembly.
The meeting marks the beginning of the Imo APC’s early mobilisation efforts as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections.
