Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has outlined his vision for Nigeria, saying his presidential ambition is centred on building a productive, united and prosperous nation through reforms in education, healthcare and economic development.
In a statement shared on Wednesday via his official X account, the former Anambra State governor said he would, in the coming weeks and months, unveil a comprehensive policy roadmap designed to tackle governance challenges, improve living standards and drive sustainable national development.
Obi said his proposed agenda would focus on curbing abuse in government, restoring public confidence in leadership and promoting unity, peace and prosperity across the country.
According to him, the vision is built on the principles of unity, inclusion, social justice, equity and the freedom of every Nigerian to pursue legitimate aspirations.
Reflecting on his decision to seek the presidency, Obi said he entered the race with a commitment to place Nigeria on the path of national transformation. He added that strengthening human capital would remain a major priority of his administration if elected.
The NDC candidate identified education and healthcare as the foundation of national development, arguing that investments in both sectors are essential to unlocking the country’s youthful population and stimulating long-term economic growth.
As part of his education agenda, Obi pledged to establish a presidential task force to significantly reduce the number of out-of-school children. He also promised greater investment in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to equip young Nigerians with practical skills needed to support industrialisation and job creation.
He proposed partnerships between government, the private sector and faith-based organisations to improve funding and equipment in vocational institutions while expanding apprenticeship opportunities through a model similar to Germany’s dual education system.
Obi further argued that Nigeria must shift from a consumption-driven economy to a production-based economy by developing skilled labour, supporting local industries and adding value to agricultural products through industrial parks across the country’s geopolitical zones. He also pledged to strengthen character and civic education to promote trust, responsible leadership and shared national values.
