The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo State Chapter, has congratulated Heartland Queens on reaching the final of the 2026 President Federation Cup, describing the achievement as a reflection of the team’s resilience and the growing strength of women’s football in the state.
In a statement jointly signed by Chairman, Cosmos Chukwuemeka, and Secretary, Tunde Liadi, the association praised the Owerri-based side for overcoming tough opposition to secure a place in the title decider.
SWAN expressed confidence that the team would continue to make Imo State proud when they face Nasarawa Amazons in the final scheduled for July 11 in Asaba.
The association also celebrated Imo-born basketball player Ugonna Onyenso following his selection in the 2026 NBA Draft, describing his rise to the world’s biggest basketball stage as an inspiration to young athletes across Nigeria.
According to SWAN, Onyenso’s journey from the NBA Academy Africa to the NBA demonstrates the rewards of dedication, discipline and hard work.
The association urged both Heartland Queens and Onyenso to remain focused as they continue to represent Imo State on national and international platforms.
SWAN also assured the athletes of the support and goodwill of sports stakeholders and fans in the state as they pursue further success in their respective careers.
