Fresh questions have emerged within opposition circles after political analyst and Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Sam Amadi, pointed out that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has not personally announced Rotimi Amaechi as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

Amadi made the observation in a post on X, noting that while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has publicly communicated the choice of Amaechi, Atiku himself has yet to formally present the former transportation minister as his vice-presidential candidate.

“@atiku is yet to publicly name @ChibuikeAmaechi as his VP. May be he will do so soonest. We wait to hear him say so soonest,” Amadi wrote.

The comment comes days after the African Democratic Congress announced Amaechi as Atiku’s running mate for the 2027 general election.

The announcement was made through a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, who said Amaechi emerged after extensive consultations with key stakeholders within the party and the opposition coalition.

According to the ADC spokesman, the decision was reached following discussions aimed at strengthening the party’s chances of mounting a formidable challenge in the 2027 presidential race.

The selection of Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation, has already generated mixed reactions across political circles. Supporters view the pairing as a strategic alliance capable of broadening the party’s national appeal, while critics have questioned the political calculations behind the ticket.

Despite the ADC’s official confirmation, observers have noted that Atiku has not yet publicly unveiled Amaechi at a joint event or through a personal statement, fueling speculation about when the formal presentation will take place.

Political analysts believe a public endorsement by Atiku could help settle ongoing discussions surrounding the ticket and signal the beginning of a coordinated campaign ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
