A Magistrate Court in Ilesa, Osun State, has sentenced two men to one year imprisonment each for stealing iron rods from a federal road construction project along the Ilesa-Ibadan Expressway.
The convicts, identified as Damilare Oladunjoye and Azeez Ibironke, were found guilty of theft by Magistrate Adedokun Ayeni of Magistrate Court II, Ilesa Division.
According to the Osun State Security Network Agency, also known as the Amotekun Corps, the suspects were arrested during a routine midnight patrol on the expressway.
In a statement issued by the Corps’ spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu Abass, operatives became suspicious after spotting the duo riding a motorcycle while transporting iron rods concealed inside a sack.
The suspects reportedly attempted to escape when they noticed the Amotekun patrol team but were chased and apprehended by officers.
During preliminary investigations, the two men allegedly confessed to stealing the iron rods from a road construction site along the Ilesa-Ibadan Expressway. They further admitted to carrying out similar thefts from the same project on previous occasions.
According to investigators, the suspects disclosed that the stolen materials were sold to a scrap dealer for ₦35,000 per operation, with the proceeds shared between them.
Following the conclusion of investigations, the defendants were arraigned before Magistrate Court II, Ilesa Division, on June 2, 2026, on charges of stealing contrary to the laws of Osun State.
The prosecution was led by the Legal Adviser to the Osun Amotekun Corps, Oyedele Akintayo, who presented the case against the defendants.
After reviewing the evidence and hearing the matter, Magistrate Ayeni convicted both men and sentenced them to one year imprisonment each. The court ordered that the sentences run concurrently.
The conviction has been welcomed by security officials, who say it sends a strong message against vandalism and theft of materials from public infrastructure projects.
