Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested seven suspects linked to alleged armed robbery, house breaking, stealing, conspiracy, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace during a series of intelligence-led operations across parts of the state.
The arrests were carried out in Sango-Ota, Owode-Egba, and Agbado as police intensified efforts to tackle crime and improve public safety in affected communities.
The suspects were identified as Mubarak Lateef, 17; Pelumi Akintande, 21; Mojeed Sanusi, 28; Damilare Makanjuola, 22; Ezra Modi, 22; Tijani Jubril, 28; and Waris Adebesin, 22.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said three of the suspects were apprehended in connection with an armed robbery incident in the Alasia Community area of Sango-Ota.
According to the police, Pelumi Akintande, Mojeed Sanusi and Mubarak Lateef were arrested after allegedly participating in a robbery operation during which valuables were forcibly taken from a resident. Investigators recovered a locally fabricated cut-to-size pistol and an expended cartridge believed to have been used during the attack.
“Acting on prompt response and credible information from members of the public, the operatives swiftly tracked and arrested the suspects,” Babaseyi said, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang who remain at large.
In a separate operation, officers from the Owode-Egba Division arrested Damilare Makanjuola over an alleged house-breaking and theft incident in Ofada. Police said further investigations linked him to additional burglary cases within Sun City Estate, where electrical appliances, cash exceeding ₦100,000, and other valuables were reportedly stolen.
The command also confirmed the arrest of Tijani Jubril and Ezra Modi for alleged conspiracy and theft within Treasure Island Estate, Awo Village. The duo was reportedly intercepted while attempting to dispose of electrical appliances allegedly stolen from a residential property.
Meanwhile, officers attached to the Agbado Division arrested Waris Adebesin after he was allegedly found carrying a knife and causing panic around a secondary school environment. Police said his actions posed a threat to public safety and had the potential to disrupt activities within the area.
“The swift intervention of the Police prevented escalation of panic, restored calm, and ensured the safety of students, staff and members of the public. The knife was recovered at the point of arrest,” the statement added.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the officers involved in the operations for their professionalism and quick response. He also thanked residents for providing timely information that aided the arrests.
The police command assured victims that investigations are ongoing and pledged to ensure that all suspects linked to the various crimes are brought to justice.
