The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has dismissed reports alleging that its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, took a political position, called off a planned protest, or remained silent on critical issues affecting Nigeria.
In a statement released on Tuesday through the church’s official public relations platform, RCCG said several claims circulating online misrepresented Pastor Adeboye’s views and actions.
The church clarified that Pastor Adeboye has consistently encouraged members to participate in Nigeria’s democratic process by obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and voting according to their personal convictions.
According to the statement, the cleric has maintained political neutrality, recognizing that RCCG members belong to different political parties and hold diverse political opinions. The church stressed that he has never directed members to support any particular political platform.
RCCG also rejected reports suggesting that Pastor Adeboye personally called off a planned protest. It explained that he only communicated a directive issued by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) regarding adjustments to a three-day prayer programme.
The church said the PFN instructed participating churches to hold the programme’s grand finale at a central venue, alongside a rally within the designated area. RCCG noted that the directive applied to all churches under the PFN umbrella nationwide and did not originate from Pastor Adeboye.
Addressing allegations that the respected cleric has remained silent on national issues, the church stated that Pastor Adeboye has repeatedly spoken on matters such as insecurity, corruption, economic hardship, elections, governance, and the need for responsible leadership.
However, RCCG noted that he typically addresses such concerns through spiritual guidance, prayer, and counsel rather than through partisan political commentary or public confrontation.
The church warned against what it described as false narratives and inaccurate portrayals of Pastor Adeboye’s position, insisting that neither the cleric nor the church should be judged based on misinformation.
RCCG urged the public to rely only on its verified communication channels and authorized representatives for information concerning Pastor Adeboye and the church. It emphasized that any statement not officially communicated or endorsed by the church should not be regarded as its position.
The statement further called on bloggers, media organizations, commentators, and content creators to uphold professional standards by verifying information before publication.
According to RCCG, responsible journalism requires accuracy, fairness, and fact-checking, especially when reporting on religious leaders and institutions. The church concluded by encouraging Nigerians to verify information before sharing it and to prioritize truth and accuracy in public discussions.
