Veteran Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has officially declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections, marking a fresh return to active politics.

The popular actor announced that he will run for the Abuja Municipal/Bwari Federal Constituency under the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), promising to bring governance closer to ordinary Nigerians.

Speaking on his political ambition, Emeka Ike said his years in entertainment gave him a deep understanding of the struggles and expectations of everyday citizens, adding that he now wants to contribute directly to leadership and policymaking.

“I am running for the Federal House of Representatives under the Bwari federal constituency in Abuja. We want to make a statement,” he said.

The Nollywood veteran explained that his move into politics is driven by a desire to help strengthen governance and ensure people feel the real impact of democracy.

“I want to step into the real thing right now. If I have made Nigerians happy through entertainment, let us see how we can bring governance closer to the people,” he added.

Emeka Ike also criticised what he described as entrenched political interests dominating the system, calling on citizens to become more active in shaping leadership and demanding accountability from elected officials.

“Let us block the boys who think they have the power. If we stand, they will run,” he declared.

A video currently circulating online showed the actor receiving his nomination form from party officials, officially launching his campaign ahead of the 2027 elections. Members of his campaign team also revealed that he had already secured victory during the party’s internal primary process.

This will not be the actor’s first political contest. In 2018, he contested for a House of Representatives seat under the Young Progressive Party (YPP) for Ideato South Federal Constituency in Imo State.

Known for starring in blockbuster Nollywood films such as Deadly Affair, Emeka Ike remains one of the industry’s most recognisable faces, having shared the screen with stars like Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Rita Dominic and Ramsey Nouah.

His declaration adds to the growing list of entertainers stepping into Nigerian politics as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
