Imo State, Nigeria – Former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Eze Madumere, has officially defected from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party, citing a commitment to democratic ideals, inclusive governance, and better service delivery.
Madumere conveyed his decision through a formal declaration letter submitted to the PDP in Imo State. In the letter, he explained that the move was driven by a desire to join a political platform that truly reflects the aspirations of the people.
“I believe that when the platform one stands on is no longer serving the purpose of the people, it then becomes apt to build a new one. I have decided to officially inform you of my resignation from APC and my entry into the PDP. This is to enable me to contribute my quota towards the development of the nation from a different perspective,” he wrote.
The former deputy governor highlighted his goals of uniting like-minded individuals committed to restoring democratic rights, youth empowerment, innovation, and transparent governance. He emphasized the importance of inclusive leadership in addressing societal challenges.
Madumere described the defection as a strategic step in his political journey, noting that it followed consultations with family, political associates, mentors, and supporters.
While expressing gratitude to the APC for opportunities provided during his tenure, he stressed that his decision was necessitated by internal party conflicts, loss of ideological direction, and repeated marginalization of loyal members.
“Remaining there will be a disservice to the very people who once voted me as Deputy Governor of Imo State,” he added.
Political observers see Madumere’s defection as a significant development ahead of upcoming elections, potentially reshaping political alignments in Imo State and the South-East region.
