A 20-year-old man, Damian Oforbuike, has been banished by his community in Ebonyi State after allegedly killing his mother in a shocking incident that has left residents in grief.

The tragedy occurred in Ohatekwe Ukawu, located in Onicha Local Government Area, where the suspect is accused of attacking his mother, Onyemaechi, with a machete over the weekend.

According to local sources, Oforbuike fled into a nearby forest immediately after the incident, prompting a search by community youths who later tracked and apprehended him.

He was subsequently paraded around the community before being declared banished, with a warning never to return.

In a video that has since circulated online, the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime, claiming he acted after his mother refused to bathe him and declined to provide money to support his brother’s barbing business.

“I killed my mother because she refused to bathe me and also refused to rent a shop for my brother who learned barbing and needed money to start,” he reportedly said.

The councillor representing the area, Maduabuchi Nweke, confirmed the development, stating that over 200 youths were mobilised to comb the forest and arrest the suspect.

He added that the suspect has been handed over to the police for further investigation, while the remains of the deceased have been deposited in a morgue.

The incident has sparked outrage and sorrow within the community, with many residents calling for justice and stronger measures to address violent crimes.
