YENAGOA, Nigeria — Newly sworn-in Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Peter Akpe, has pledged to anchor his tenure on humility, service, and collective responsibility, describing his new role as a call to serve rather than a platform for personal glory.

Pastor Akpe made the declaration during a reception at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Memorial Banquet Hall in Government House, Yenagoa, shortly after his swearing-in.

“Public Office Is a Burden of Trust”

Addressing political leaders, clergy, family members, and supporters from across the country, Akpe stressed that leadership must be guided by faith, accountability, and genuine concern for the people.

“Public office should not be seen as a reward but as a burden of trust that demands sacrifice, discipline, and openness to counsel,” he said.

He added that his emergence was not by personal lobbying but by divine providence, maintaining that he had always allowed “the will of God” to prevail in his public journey.

“It is a privilege to serve Bayelsa, and I will do so with the fear of God, respect for the people, and commitment to what is right,” he said.
