ABUJA, Nigeria — President Bola Tinubu has convened a high-level strategy summit to rally governors, federal lawmakers, and All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders around consolidating economic reforms and strengthening grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
The summit, held at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja, also served as a launchpad for the party’s 2027 electoral machinery. Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), Hope Uzodimma, and APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, highlighted the critical role of unified messaging and disciplined grassroots mobilisation in securing electoral victory.
From Economic Stabilisation to Growth Acceleration
President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, framed the administration’s first phase since 2023 as a period of “difficult but necessary corrections.” He noted improvements in key economic indicators, including:
- Strengthened foreign reserves and exchange rate stability
- Increased oil production and domestic refining capacity
- Implementation of a new N70,000 minimum wage
- Rollout of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND)
“Our economy is picking up. Major investment decisions across Africa increasingly favour Nigeria. That reflects renewed confidence in our direction,” Tinubu said. He added that the proposed N58.18 trillion 2026 budget will pivot the economy “from stabilisation to acceleration,” with record capital expenditure, enhanced security allocations, and tax reforms benefiting vulnerable citizens while expanding the revenue base.
Addressing Communication Gaps
While celebrating policy gains, PGF Chairman Uzodimma warned that fragmented communication and inconsistent grassroots engagement could undermine the party’s narrative. He outlined a “three-pillar unified communication architecture” linking Renewed Hope Ambassadors, government information managers, and APC structures into a coordinated messaging system.
The strategy includes:
- Standardised messaging guides
- Structured ward-level town halls
- Harmonised membership drives
- Coordinated digital campaigns with rapid-response units to combat misinformation
National Chairman Yilwatda emphasised that governance without effective communication is politically “self-defeating” and described the 2027 general election as a referendum on transformation and stability. Both leaders underscored the strategic importance of youth and women’s participation in party structures, advocating measurable inclusion targets.
Focus on Grassroots Mobilisation
Tinubu tasked the Renewed Hope Ambassadors with ensuring that reform messages reach communities, markets, campuses, and local wards, stressing that public understanding of economic measures would be crucial for sustained policy success.
“Good governance without communication is invisible. Communication without structure is noise,” Yilwatda said, reinforcing the administration’s focus on bridging the gap between macroeconomic achievements and citizens’ lived experiences.
