Kano, Nigeria – The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State has strongly criticised the arrest of one of its members, Aiha K. Nass, describing the action by security agencies as unacceptable and politically troubling.
The party warned against what it called partisan conduct by security operatives, urging law enforcement authorities to remain neutral in a democratic system.
“Security Agencies Must Not Take Sides”
Speaking at the party’s headquarters in Kano, NNPP State Publicity Secretary, Engr. Ibrahim Karaye, said the arrest raised concerns about fairness and constitutional rights.
He called on security agencies to avoid biased actions, stressing that democracy thrives on neutrality, rule of law and equal treatment of citizens.
Karaye demanded the immediate release of Nass, arguing that every Nigerian is entitled to freedom of speech and association under the constitution.
Call for Democratic Principles
The NNPP also urged the Kano State Government to uphold democratic values, noting that its legitimacy is rooted in respect for constitutional principles.
“Finally, the party calls on all to remain calm, law-abiding, and adhere to the rules of the game,” the statement added.
While details surrounding the arrest remain unclear, the development has heightened political tension in the state, with the NNPP insisting that due process must be followed.
