The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down 18 warehouses in Bida, Niger State, after uncovering vast quantities of expired food and beverages valued at around N100 million.
According to a statement from the agency’s Resident Media Consultant, Olusayo Akintola, the warehouses were located around Ndazabo White House along Minna Road, behind Bida Modern Market.
Raid Reveals Expired Stock
NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement team acted on credible intelligence to uncover:
- 80,000 packets of expired non-alcoholic drinks
- 5,000 packets of dairy milk
- 16,000 packets of bottled water
- 28 cartons of pasta
- Other assorted expired items
Some of the products were already packaged for distribution when seized.
Warehouse Managers and Company Link
The managers of the affected warehouses were arrested for interrogation. Preliminary investigations linked the facilities to BY Ventures, prompting NAFDAC to extend operations to the company’s supermarkets in Minna.
Additional findings included expired products and allegedly counterfeit Goya cooking oil, resulting in the supermarkets being sealed as well.
The Managing Director of BY Ventures, Alhaji Yusuf Nadabo, admitted ownership of the expired items during questioning.
Regulatory Action Ongoing
NAFDAC stated that investigations are ongoing and assured that appropriate sanctions will be imposed to deter similar violations in the future.
