William Stevenson, 77, the ex-husband of former First Lady Jill Biden, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder following the death of his wife, Linda Stevenson, at their home in Wilmington, Delaware, in December.
Stevenson, who was married to Jill Biden from 1970 until their divorce in 1975, was taken into custody on Monday after failing to post $500,000 cash bail, according to New Castle County Police.
Police were called to the couple’s residence shortly after 11 pm (0400 GMT) on December 28 following reports of a domestic dispute. Officers found Linda Stevenson, 64, unresponsive in the living room. Life-saving measures were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not disclosed the cause of death or further details of the ongoing investigation.
Linda Stevenson, described in her obituary as “deeply family-oriented” and devoted to making memories with her daughter and granddaughter, also ran a bookkeeping business and was a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles. She was remembered as “tenacious, kind-hearted, and fiercely loyal,” with a “strength, resilience, and unwavering love for her family and friends” that will be greatly missed.
