Medical doctor and former reality TV star, Faith Adewale, has raised concerns about the link between sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and mental health disorders, highlighting that prolonged infections can have serious neurological effects.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Clarity Zone podcast, co-hosted by Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, popularly known as Nedu Wazobia, Adewale specifically pointed to neurosyphilis—the third stage of syphilis—as a major contributor to mental health problems.

“Do you know STIs can cause mental problems? There is something called neurosyphilis, the third stage of syphilis… There are many things that can lead to mental issues,” Adewale said.

He emphasized that many mental health patients may be suffering from illnesses linked to untreated or long-standing STIs. “A lot of the people having mental health problems, some of them have STIs. Neurosyphilis affects your brain. It affects the way you process things,” he added.

Adewale’s comments underscore growing medical concerns about the broader health implications of STIs, particularly when infections remain untreated. His warning encourages public awareness of the importance of early diagnosis and treatment, not only to prevent physical complications but also to safeguard mental health.
