The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has officially lifted the indefinite suspension of Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar, restoring her eligibility to participate in guild activities and film projects.

Abubakar had been suspended since October 2024 over allegations of defaming fellow actors and prominent Nigerians. A two-year investigation by a guild-appointed panel had confirmed her culpability, prompting her temporary exclusion from all AGN programs.

The announcement came from outgoing AGN National President Emeka Rollas during the inauguration of the guild’s new National Executive Council (NEC) on Thursday at the AGN national secretariat in Abuja. The event drew actors, filmmakers, and entertainment stakeholders from across the country.

Reason for Lifting the Suspension

Rollas explained that the decision to reinstate Abubakar was driven by compassion and fairness, especially as acting remains her primary source of livelihood.

“Halima Abubakar took AGN to court claiming a frivolous amount of money, but we had our investigations and suspended her from all acting and AGN activities. However, since acting remains her main source of livelihood, it would be wicked for us to leave her like that. Therefore today, by the powers imposed on me by the Board of Trustees and the entire Actors Guild of Nigeria, I hereby lift Halima Abubakar’s suspension,” Rollas said.

The outgoing president also revealed that suspensions imposed on Christopher Igboji, Chidi Concord, Dan Ewerem, and Jeff Okwute—members of the Enugu State chapter—had been lifted as well.

Transition of Leadership

Rollas formally handed over leadership to Abubakar Yakubu, marking the end of his second and final term. During the ceremony, Chuks Chyke, Chairman of the Organising Committee, praised Rollas for fostering stability and inclusiveness in the guild.

The lifting of these suspensions signals a fresh start for AGN members previously sidelined and reflects the guild’s commitment to balancing discipline with compassion for members’ careers.
