Popular Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has been remanded in Suleja Prison following allegations of defaming fellow actress Mercy Johnson. The decision was made by an Abuja court on Wednesday, shortly after her arrest.

Filmmaker Stanley Ontop raised concerns over the case, describing the situation as an abuse of due process. He urged Mercy Johnson to pursue civil litigation rather than relying on criminal action, noting that defamation is typically a civil matter.

“Free @realangelaokorie now irrespective of who is involved. If you feel they defamed your person, kindly approach a competent court and sue the person involved. Omo, when will Nigeria police even learn to do their work well?” Ontop wrote on Instagram.

He also criticised the speed of the judicial process in Angela Okorie’s case, questioning how the legal system could act so swiftly while a colleague remains imprisoned. “So the judicial can work this fast? Tell me how you will sleep this night knowing fully well that your colleague is in prison! Angela, I will never forsake you,” he added.

Reports indicate that Angela Okorie was arrested in Lagos on Tuesday night and transported to Abuja on Wednesday morning. The case continues to generate widespread attention and discussion across social media and Nollywood circles.
