Comrade Daniel Onjeh, former APC senatorial candidate for Benue South, has declared that no political smear, media attack, or orchestrated campaign of calumny can prevent Governor Hyacinth Alia from securing re-election in 2027.

Speaking in a press release issued in Makurdi on Tuesday, Onjeh described the attacks against Alia’s administration as desperate moves by vested interests threatened by a government focused on the welfare of ordinary citizens rather than elite agendas.

“No campaign of calumny, smear, or sponsored attack will deter Governor Alia from securing re-election in 2027,” Onjeh said, stressing that the governor has already earned widespread trust and goodwill through tangible achievements.

He highlighted that Alia’s administration has delivered people-centered results that surpass previous governments since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999. According to Onjeh, the government’s calm, measured leadership style should not be mistaken for inaction. “Benue is undergoing a quiet but deliberate transformation,” he said, pointing to infrastructure projects and policy-driven interventions that are making a real difference in citizens’ lives.

Onjeh, a former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and ex-Chairman of the Project Development Institute (PRODA), Enugu, argued that the ongoing political attacks are a reaction from individuals who lost access to privilege and control under past administrations. He noted that unlike Alia’s government, previous governments often left projects incomplete and unpaid salaries and pensions unaddressed without facing widespread opposition.

“The intensity of attacks against Governor Alia only confirms that those who lost control of the state are the loudest in opposition,” Onjeh said. He urged critics to accept reality, emphasizing that the people of Benue understand the importance of continuity for sustained development.

Using a biblical metaphor, Onjeh said, “Returning to Egypt is not an option. Even at the Red Sea, the people would rather trust in a way forward than return to bondage.” He concluded by affirming that performance, sincerity, and popular support will always triumph over propaganda and political noise, insisting that Governor Alia will win re-election overwhelmingly in 2027.
