The All Progressives Congress (APC) has further consolidated its dominance across Nigeria, now controlling 29 of the country’s 36 states, according to a regional breakdown of current party control nationwide.

In a major political shift, the ruling party has secured a clean sweep of the South-South, taking control of all six states in the oil-rich region. Delta, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Cross River, Rivers and Bayelsa are now governed by the APC, marking a significant expansion of its influence in a zone traditionally considered competitive.

The APC has also tightened its hold on the North-Central, where it now governs all six states in the region — Benue, Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa, Kogi and Plateau — giving the party another complete regional sweep.

In the South-East, the ruling party controls three of the five states. Enugu, Ebonyi and Imo are under APC administrations, while Abia remains in the hands of the Labour Party (LP) and Anambra continues under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The South-West remains largely favourable to the APC, with the party in power in Lagos, Ekiti, Ogun and Ondo states. Oyo is governed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while Osun is currently under the Accord Party, leaving the APC with four of the six states in the zone.

In the North-East, the APC governs Borno, Yobe, Taraba and Gombe. Adamawa and Bauchi remain under PDP control, giving the ruling party four out of six states in the region.

The North-West continues to serve as one of the APC’s strongest bases. Katsina, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna and Kano are all controlled by the party, with Zamfara standing as the lone PDP-governed state in the zone.

Taken together, the regional spread underscores the APC’s growing political footprint, with control of 29 states across the federation — a development that further reshapes Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of future electoral contests.
