Senator Jonah Jang, former Governor of Plateau State, has refuted claims that he called for the resignation of Governor Caleb Mutfwang following the governor’s recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The denial came through a statement issued on Monday by Clinton Garuba, Jang’s media consultant, in Jos. Garuba described the circulating reports as misleading and said the former governor’s comments were taken out of context.

“At no time during the PDP stakeholders’ meeting did he call for Mutfwang’s resignation,” the statement read. “Rather, he criticised politicians for leaving their parties to join others. The attention of Sen. Jonah David Jang has been drawn to a misleading report in some print and online media outlets, which misrepresented his position.”

Garuba added that Jang urged Plateau residents to ignore such misleading reports and continue supporting Governor Mutfwang to succeed in office.

The controversy follows Mutfwang’s defection to the APC, which has stirred debate within Plateau’s political circles and raised tensions among party stakeholders. Jang, a former PDP stalwart, emphasised party loyalty and cautioned against the growing trend of political defections.
