The Federal Fire Service has promoted 2,620 officers across various ranks, with the Controller General, Samuel Olumode Adeyemi, urging them to uphold discipline, professionalism, and operational readiness in their duties.

Adeyemi spoke during the decoration ceremony for the newly promoted senior officers, describing the exercise as a recognition of sacrifice, discipline, and consistent performance within the Service.

He emphasized that the promotions followed a rigorous and transparent process conducted by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board in collaboration with the Army Resource Centre, stressing that advancement is strictly merit-based.

“Promotion in the Federal Fire Service is neither automatic nor accidental; it is the result of years of commitment, repeated assessments, and institutional scrutiny,” Adeyemi said, noting that new ranks come with greater responsibilities.

The Controller General thanked President Bola Tinubu for supporting security and emergency response institutions and commended Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji Ojo and board members for enforcing accountability and performance-based advancement within the Service.

Adeyemi, who assumed office in August 2025 with nearly two decades of experience in firefighting and emergency response, highlighted key reforms implemented under his leadership. These include:

  • Direct engagement with personnel and welfare support for families of fallen and injured officers.
  • Increase of interest-free welfare loans from ₦300,000 to ₦500,000.
  • Deployment of 40 refurbished fire appliances nationwide and training of over 700 officers, including specialized courses at military institutions.
  • Strengthened fire prevention and public safety measures, including building safety audits and collaborations with state fire services and private organizations.

He noted that strategic decisions, such as restricting leave during the 2025 festive period, had enhanced emergency response, saving lives and properties worth billions of naira.

Adeyemi urged the promoted officers to view their elevation as a call to higher standards, reinforcing that leadership, integrity, discipline, and public service remain the core values of the Federal Fire Service.
