Tragedy struck on Friday morning along the Jama’are–Azare axis of the Kano–Maiduguri Expressway as a commercial bus crash claimed nine lives and left ten others injured, the Bauchi State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed.

The accident occurred at approximately 6:20 am, involving a vehicle with registration number KTG 181 ZZ, transporting 19 passengers from Gombe to Kano.

Sector Commander CC Apaji Danladi Boyi briefed journalists, attributing the crash to over-speeding, driver fatigue, and loss of control. He noted that FRSC personnel swiftly evacuated the injured to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare, for emergency medical attention, while the deceased were deposited at the morgue awaiting identification and claims by relatives.

“The crash underscores the dangers of post-festive travel on our highways,” Boyi said, emphasizing that Operation Zero Special Patrol remains active across Bauchi State to monitor major roads and prevent further accidents.

The Sector Commander urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, warning that roads will remain congested as travelers return home following the Yuletide and New Year celebrations.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash, while emergency services maintain heightened readiness to respond to road incidents across the state.
