A tragic traffic accident along the Sagamu–Benin Expressway in Ogun State claimed the lives of two people on Saturday, authorities have confirmed. The collision involved a yellow Toyota Hiace bus and a blue Benz truck along the Ososa section of the busy highway.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), revealed that 21 passengers were involved in the crash. Several others sustained injuries, though exact figures have not been disclosed.

Preliminary reports indicate the bus was traveling against traffic when it collided head-on with the truck. Eyewitnesses described the impact as severe, leaving the vehicles mangled and blocking the road.

“The fatal accident occurred at Ososa slope, inbound to Sagamu from Ijebu-Ode. Eyewitnesses reported that the bus was driving against traffic when it collided head-on with the truck,” Akinbiyi said.

The two victims were transported to the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital morgue, while the injured received medical attention at the same facility. The extent of their injuries has not yet been confirmed.

Authorities have removed both vehicles from the highway and handed them over to the Nigeria Police Force, Obalende Division, Ijebu-Ode, for further investigation. Police are expected to determine the cause and assess liability in the coming days.

Officials have urged motorists to exercise extreme caution, particularly on busy expressways, and called on commercial drivers to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
