Enyimba FC have suspended head coach Stanley Eguma and his two assistants following a disappointing run of results in the ongoing 2025/26 NPFL season. The decision comes after a 1-0 home defeat to Wikki Tourists on Sunday, marking the team’s second home loss of the campaign.

The People’s Elephant also confirmed the suspension of assistant coaches Ndubuisi Nduka and Joseph Boma. The club cited the need for a full performance review ahead of upcoming matches as the main reason for the decision.

Assistant coach Lawrence Ukaegbu has been appointed interim head coach and will lead preparations for the crucial Matchday 14 clash against Katsina United in Jos. Club officials emphasised that this is part of a broader strategy to assess squad and coaching performance.

Enyimba currently sit 11th on the NPFL table with 17 points from 13 games, a standing considered underwhelming for one of Nigeria’s most decorated football clubs. The management expressed hope that the temporary coaching changes would reinvigorate the squad ahead of the season’s decisive fixtures.

Fans and pundits have raised concerns over the team’s home form, noting that struggles at their own stadium have been a key factor in their mid-table position. The club’s management stressed that accountability is crucial in professional football, and corrective measures are being implemented swiftly.

The suspension highlights increasing pressure on Nigerian club managers to deliver consistent results, particularly at clubs with high expectations like Enyimba. It also sends a clear message to players and coaching staff about the consequences of underperformance.

The NPFL season is entering a critical phase, and all eyes will be on Ukaegbu to stabilise the team and salvage Enyimba’s push for a top-table finish. The club’s next fixture against Katsina United will be seen as a litmus test for the interim coaching setup.
