Controversy has erupted online after CCTV footage surfaced showing Nigerian actress Peggy Ovire allegedly assaulting actor Taye Arimoro on a movie set. The incident, which occurred late Tuesday night, has ignited widespread condemnation from fans and industry observers.
Taye Arimoro took to Instagram on Wednesday to allege that Ovire physically assaulted him and detained him against his will, demanding he film “two quick scenes” before being allowed to leave. According to the actor, he attempted to leave around midnight after exceeding the agreed filming hours.
The actor claims that Peggy Ovire instructed her crew members and driver to block his car and assault him when he tried to depart the location. He described the incident as a violation of his rights and a form of intimidation by the actress and her team.
Responding to the allegations, Ovire posted on her Instagram story that the actor had first assaulted her driver. She suggested that her actions were a defensive response to his behaviour.
However, CCTV footage released on Thursday morning appears to contradict her claims. The video shows Ovire, alongside her driver, physically confronting Arimoro in front of other crew members, prompting a storm of criticism from social media users.
Many Nigerians expressed outrage at Ovire’s actions. One Twitter user, @akwabekie, wrote: “CCTV has come out, and it shows she even assaulted the actor. She almost wrecked this guy’s career.” Others condemned the alleged tyre-deflation attempt and called for accountability, highlighting the need for better on-set conflict management.
The incident has sparked a broader discussion about workplace safety and professionalism in Nollywood. Industry insiders have called for clear protocols to prevent harassment and ensure the safety of actors and crew during production.
