The Miss Universe 2025 pageant has been thrown into controversy after several contestants staged a dramatic walkout during a pre-event ceremony in Thailand, following the public humiliation of Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch.

According to reports, Bosch clashed with Nawat Itsaragrisil, an official from the host nation, after he allegedly called her “dumb” for failing to post promotional content on her social media page — a requirement for contestants.

When Bosch tried to defend herself, Itsaragrisil reportedly called in security and threatened to disqualify anyone who sided with her. The incident triggered outrage among the contestants, several of whom left the event in solidarity with Miss Mexico.

Videos circulating online show Bosch tearfully addressing the media outside the venue, describing the organiser’s actions as “disrespectful” and “undermining to women.”

“As a country, you have all my respect. I truly love Thailand and its people,” Bosch said. “But what your director did is not respectful. He called me dumb and told me to shut up. This platform should empower women, not silence them.”

The confrontation has sparked global criticism, with fans and human rights advocates accusing the Miss Universe organisation of hypocrisy for allegedly failing to uphold the values of respect and female empowerment it promotes.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Miss Universe Organisation nor Thai officials have issued a formal response to the allegations. Calls for an apology and possible sanctions against the organiser continue to gain traction across social media.
