The Forum of State Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended the party chairmen of Imo and Abia States over alleged sabotage and collusion with external interests ahead of the party’s National Elective Convention.
The decision was reached during a meeting of the forum held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the PDP FCT Secretariat in Abuja, chaired by Sir Edward Percy Masha, Acting Secretary of the forum.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, newly appointed Chairman Dr. Tony Aziegbemi (Edo State) and Secretary Sir Edward Masha accused Hon. Austine Nwachukwu (Imo) and Hon. Amah Abraham Nnana (Abia) of working with forces linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to derail preparations for the PDP’s National Convention, scheduled for November 15–16, 2025.
The forum said the two chairmen had recently sought a court injunction to halt the convention — an action it described as “a betrayal of the party’s unity and collective resolve.” Their suspension, according to the communiqué, followed a unanimous vote by members present.
The session, attended by 25 chairmen physically and seven virtually, also confirmed Dr. Aziegbemi as the new Chairman of the PDP State Chairmen Forum.
Forum Condemns APC’s Tactics, Reaffirms Loyalty to Party Leadership
The forum condemned what it described as the APC’s “undemocratic and desperate efforts” to intimidate PDP leaders into defecting, warning that such actions threaten Nigeria’s multi-party democracy and could create a one-party state.
It also passed a vote of confidence in the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), the PDP Governors’ Forum, and other statutory party organs, pledging continued collaboration to rebuild and reposition the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We stand united in defending the party’s integrity, strengthening internal democracy, and restoring confidence among Nigerians who still look to the PDP as a credible alternative,” the communiqué read.
Political observers say the latest suspension underscores rising internal tensions as the PDP attempts to reorganize and present a unified front ahead of its critical convention.
