Grief and disbelief swept through Ilorin, Kwara State, on Tuesday, July 23, 2025, after a 24-year-old fresh graduate, Wuraola Adeoye, was allegedly stabbed to death by her elder sister, Adunni, following a heated argument in their shared apartment. The tragedy occurred just six days after Wuraola celebrated her signing-out from Kwara State Polytechnic.

Eyewitnesses at their residence in the Adewole area of Ilorin revealed that a verbal altercation between the two sisters escalated around 7:00 pm. In the heat of the moment, Adunni reportedly reached for a pair of scissors and stabbed Wuraola in the chest. The wound was described as deep and life-threatening, causing massive blood loss before help arrived.

Neighbors said Adunni initially refused to call for medical assistance. A resident eventually rushed Wuraola to a nearby hospital, while a friend sourced and paid for two pints of blood in a desperate attempt to save her life. Despite their efforts, Wuraola was confirmed dead shortly after arrival at the emergency unit of an undisclosed medical facility.

After realizing the consequences of her actions, Adunni allegedly fled the scene before police could arrive. As of press time, she remains at large, and the Kwara State Police Command has launched a manhunt, confirming that a homicide investigation is now active.

Wuraola, described by classmates as “brilliant, cheerful, and full of promise,” had only recently completed her Higher National Diploma (HND) program and was looking forward to her NYSC posting. Her murder has ignited calls for better conflict resolution awareness and mental health interventions within families.

The community has declared a day of mourning, while the Kwara Polytechnic Student Union has urged security agencies to fast-track the arrest and prosecution of the suspect. Police are calling on anyone with useful information about Adunni’s whereabouts to contact the nearest station.
