The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally declared its ambition to wrestle power from the ruling party in Imo State come 2027, unveiling an aggressive membership drive aimed at attracting disillusioned politicians and voters across all political divides.

Chairman of ADC in Imo, Professor James Okoroma, said on Tuesday, July 15, that the party is establishing clear entry mechanisms for credible individuals—regardless of party affiliation—who believe in discipline, honesty, and people-focused leadership. The announcement came via a statement shared with journalists in Owerri, signaling what he called a “total reset” of the state’s political landscape.

Okoroma, a respected academic and political reform advocate, emphasized that ADC’s rising popularity stems from its non-negotiable principles of integrity, inclusivity, and sustainable development. He said the party’s readiness to accommodate like-minded defectors is a testament to its open-door policy for rebuilding trust in governance.

“Our politics must shift from deception and manipulation to values-driven leadership,” Okoroma said. “Imo people are tired of recycled promises and broken systems. ADC is offering an alternative—one that’s people-centered, transparent, and development-focused.”

The 2023 ADC governorship candidate also used the moment to galvanize public support, calling on youths, professionals, and community leaders to register and identify with the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. He assured that consistency and loyalty to the movement would be met with fair reward and strong representation.

He further disclosed that the party has commenced grassroots consultations across the 27 LGAs of Imo State, with plans underway to launch ADC’s Consolidated Development Agenda in all senatorial zones by September 2025.

As the 2027 race quietly begins to shape up, political observers are watching closely to see if ADC’s current momentum and ideological clarity can challenge Imo’s entrenched political order.
