Welsh Woman, 40, Dies Alongside Unborn Baby After Medical Complications in Nigeria

A 40-year-old Welsh woman, identified as Claire, has died alongside her unborn baby girl after suffering severe medical complications at 37 weeks of pregnancy in Nigeria.

Claire reportedly developed complications that led to the death of her unborn daughter, followed by sepsis and septic shock, which claimed her life.

The woman had been living in Nigeria for several years after relocating from Wales to be with her husband. Together, the couple built a social media following of thousands on TikTok, where they shared videos about their daily experiences, faith and food challenges.

Her sister, Shannon, described Claire as a lively, strong-minded woman who enjoyed dancing, making people laugh and expressing herself freely.

“She was funny, loved dancing and being silly, and never particularly cared what anyone thought of her,” Shannon said.

“She was fiercely strong-minded, always stood up for what she believed in and wasn’t afraid to speak her mind.”

Claire is survived by her husband, other relatives and her 19-year-old son, who lives in Wales.

Following the tragedy, her family in South Wales launched an online fundraising appeal to cover the cost of repatriating her remains and those of her baby daughter.

The appeal has reportedly raised more than £10,000 from well-wishers seeking to support the family during the difficult period.

Shannon appealed for more donations and public support, stressing that time was important in making arrangements to bring Claire and her daughter home for burial.

“Timing is crucial with this situation, so the more we share now, the better chance we have of bringing Claire home to get the send-off she deserves,” she said.

The family is now seeking support to complete the repatriation arrangements and give Claire and her daughter a final farewell in Wales.
