One Killed as Commercial Bus Crashes, Catches Fire in Ilorin

One person has died after a commercial bus carrying 21 passengers crashed and caught fire at Iye-Maja Junction along the Oko-Olowo highway in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The accident occurred at about 6:35pm on Sunday after the bus, with registration number DTH840SA, reportedly lost control when one of its tyres burst. The vehicle somersaulted before bursting into flames.
The Kwara State Fire Service responded to the scene and began rescue operations. Firefighters evacuated all the passengers from the vehicle as emergency efforts continued.
The spokesman for the state Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, said passengers who sustained injuries were taken to hospital for medical treatment. He also confirmed that one person died in the crash.
The Fire Service expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured passengers a speedy recovery.
Chief Fire Officer Alabi Muhammed urged motorists, especially commercial vehicle operators, to ensure their vehicles are properly maintained and roadworthy before embarking on journeys.
Muhammed advised drivers to regularly inspect tyres, braking systems, electrical components and other critical vehicle parts. He also urged motorists to drive cautiously and promptly report emergencies to the appropriate response agencies.
