One Dead, Several Injured as Tipper Truck Collides With Sienna Bus in Umuahia

One person has died and several others sustained serious injuries after a tipper truck carrying wet sand collided with a Toyota Sienna bus on Ossah Road in Umuahia, Abia State.
The accident occurred at about 1pm on Monday at a sharp bend on the road. The white tipper truck was reportedly travelling from a sand mining site to a building site when it collided with the Sienna bus.
The impact threw the conductor of the tipper truck out of the vehicle and onto the road. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Other passengers involved in the crash were seriously injured and quickly evacuated to hospital by personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Abia State Command, for medical treatment.
Confirming the incident, the FRSC Sector Commander in Abia State, Ngozi Ezeoma, said personnel from the command were immediately deployed for rescue operations after receiving information about the crash.
Ezeoma said investigations into the accident were ongoing as authorities worked to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The FRSC commander also appealed to motorists and other road users in Abia State to observe traffic regulations and follow safety measures to help prevent avoidable crashes on the state’s roads.
