Kwankwasiyya Urges Calm as INEC Omits NDC Kano Governorship Candidate

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has appealed to its members and supporters to remain calm following the omission of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Kano State governorship candidate Aminu Gwarzo and his running mate, Mustapha Kwankwaso, from the final list of candidates published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement dated October 11, 2026, the movement’s spokesperson, Habibu Mohammed, said the development had raised concerns among supporters. However, he urged them to exercise restraint while the party pursued available administrative and legal options to resolve the matter.

The movement said Gwarzo had registered with the NDC within the stipulated period and stated that it was unaware of any court case or judicial order identified as the reason for his exclusion. It called on INEC to explain the circumstances surrounding the omission.

“These circumstances make it imperative for INEC to provide a clear explanation and ensure that the matter receives the attention it deserves,” the statement said.

The group also drew attention to Section 32(2) of the Electoral Act 2026, which it said provides a 14-day period for a political party to notify INEC in writing, supported by an affidavit, when its nominated candidate’s name is missing. It urged the NDC leadership and the candidate’s legal representatives to examine the provision and pursue any applicable remedy within the prescribed timeframe.

To support its position, the movement advised the party to assemble relevant documents, including evidence of timely registration, candidate nomination, submission of required particulars and official acknowledgements. It said these records could help establish whether the omission resulted from an administrative error.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement, however, said it would not prejudge INEC’s formal response or the outcome of any legal proceedings. It emphasised the need for due process and verifiable evidence, while urging supporters to avoid confrontation and the circulation of unconfirmed information.

The movement reiterated its commitment to constitutional democracy, electoral justice and the rule of law. It said it would continue monitoring developments and sharing verified information with its supporters as the NDC seeks clarification and pursues available remedies.
