INEC Introduces QR Codes for PVC Collection Centres in Lagos Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has introduced QR codes to help eligible voters locate designated Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection centres ahead of the 2027 general elections. The codes will be available through the Commission’s official website and social media platforms.

Resident Electoral Commissioner Professor Ayobami Salami announced the initiative at a press conference at INEC’s headquarters in Lagos on Tuesday. He urged eligible voters to collect their PVCs, verify their registration details and rely on official channels for election-related information as preparations for the polls continue.

INEC said its preparations for the 2027 general elections in Lagos also include procuring and testing voter accreditation devices, improving election-result transmission systems, strengthening logistics and recruiting and training election personnel. These measures form part of the Commission’s broader efforts to prepare for the upcoming elections.

The Commission has also reviewed its timetable for the 2027 general elections following changes to the legal framework governing electoral activities. INEC explained that the Electoral Act, 2022, had been repealed and replaced by the Electoral Act, 2026, prompting adjustments to statutory timelines for pre-election activities and the conduct of elections.

Under the earlier timetable, the Presidential and National Assembly elections were scheduled for Saturday, February 20, 2027, while the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections were fixed for Saturday, March 6, 2027. The Commission subsequently realigned the dates to comply with the revised legal framework.

According to the revised schedule cited by INEC, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will now take place on Saturday, January 16, 2027. The Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for Saturday, February 6, 2027.

The introduction of QR codes is intended to make it easier for voters in Lagos to identify where they should collect their PVCs. Eligible voters are encouraged to use the Commission’s official platforms to access the codes, confirm their registration information and obtain reliable updates as election preparations progress.
