Femi Otedola Reveals 49-Year Friendship With Lagos Deputy Governor Hamzat

Billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has revealed that Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat was his bunkmate in boarding school nearly five decades ago.

Otedola shared the revelation on Monday in a post on his official X account, where he also disclosed that he had hosted a dinner in honour of Hamzat.

In the post, the businessman referred to Hamzat as the “incoming Governor of Lagos State”, signalling his support for the deputy governor’s anticipated political future.

“Yesterday, I hosted dinner in honour of @DrObafemiHamzat, the incoming Governor of Lagos State,” Otedola wrote.

He recalled their school days, saying they had shared a bunk bed at boarding school 49 years ago. The disclosure highlighted a friendship that dates back to their early years, long before their present public roles.

Otedola also praised Hamzat’s character, describing him as a man of integrity. He said his experience of the deputy governor over the years had been shaped by qualities including honesty, sincerity, fairness and strong moral principles.

The dinner was attended by fellow billionaires Aliko Dangote and Abdul Samad Rabiu, according to the report. Their presence brought together some of Nigeria’s most prominent business figures at the gathering.

Otedola’s description of Hamzat as Lagos State’s “incoming Governor” was made in his own post. It should not, on its own, be taken as confirmation of the outcome of any election or the formal selection of a successor.
